Robbie Fowler's £30m property empire
Robbie Fowler retired from football in 2012, after building up a property portfolio so large Man City fans were known to chant “We all live in a Robbie Fowler house” whilst he played.
Robbie Fowler is one of the greatest strikers in Premier League history. His playing CV is nothing to be sniffed at:
163 Premier League goals (8th on the All-Time List)
26 caps for England
Nike athlete his entire career
He also has one of the greatest goalscoring celebrations ever in his armoury.
However, it wasn’t until 2005 when the Sunday Times valued Fowler’s net worth at £26m that the wider British public took notice of his off-the-field achievements.
Through a series of strategic investments, and a brilliant introduction from Manager Graeme Souness, Robbie Fowler and wife Kelly, have amassed a sizeable property portfolio valued in excess of £30m.
The crazy part is Fowler’s playing career began in 1993 for Liverpool. His first professional contract was £220/week. After an incredible first season at Liverpool he earned himself an extension which took him to £500/week!
Despite his fame and his fortune growing at a rapid rate, Fowler was humble with his ascent.
Nothing has changed in my routine, except when I got to the Chinese to get my Fried Rice, it’s wrapped in a newspaper with my name on it! - Fowler, R. 1994
The timeline for Fowler is as follows:
1995: Introduced to George Scott, a financial advisor who becomes Fowler’s agent and business partner
1998: Bought a house for his mother, father and for himself
2001: Signs for Leeds for £11m
2005: Property Portfolio crosses 100 units
In the late 90s footballers spending on investments was not commonly seen. It still isn’t now!
An example? Fowler and his associates famously explored an investment opportunity on a property in Hadlee Wood, London in the early 2000s. Two days later, the Britihs newspapers were rife with speculation of an imminent transfer from Liverpool to London-based Arsenal!
Fowler who has done a series of presenting gigs since his retirement and is currently managing SC East Bengal in the Indian Super League is often very coy about his business ventures.
He also gives a lot of kudos to his wife:
She’s the boss. She did it all whilst I was playing. Basically, I go out and get the money.
After famously buying 6 houses next to each other on the same street in Oldham, Man City fans would often sing “we all live in a Fowler house” from the terraces in matches.
At his financial peak, Fowler was making circa.£30,000/week. What he has achieved since is nothing short of remarkable.
In 2020, Fowler was granted planning permission to build a 325-unit apartment block in Liverpool which marks his first foray into property development.
The units are set for completion in 2021 are suffering a setback due to COVID-19.
Retirement, was just the beginning for Robbie and Kelly.

💰 Kevin Durant has had a good week. His Venture Capital arm Thirty Five Ventures scored a big win on Tuesday when trading playform Robinhood IPO’d at a $32bn valuation. Durant and his team invested into the comapny in 2017 when it was valued at $1.2bn. This is the second high-profile win for Durant in recent months as 35 Ventures had also invested in Acorns and Coinbase who both listed earlier this year to healthy gains.
🏎 Christian Horner, Princinpal of Red Bull Racing told of the damage to Max Verstappen’s car in his crash with Lewis Hamilton last week. Horner proclaims the repair costs on the Red Bull model to be in excess of £1.3m. Ouch!
