🏀 Andre Iguodala: The Sixth Man
Life has got the best of me recently.
I tested positive for COVID two weeks ago and that slowed any short-term life plans I had - like bringing you a detailed deep-dive into the story of David Beckham’s Inter Miami.
This week we do something slightly different, starting with one of my favourite athletes in the world.
Andre Iguodala is an NBA Champion.
He is also the exact type of athlete I made The Long Play to showcase.
Only problem being, he’s from the States.
For those unfamiliar with the name Andre is:
An NBA Champion, currently playing in his 17th season in the league
The 2016 NBA Finals MVP - a coveted position he won whilst playing on the winning Golden State Warriors team with Steph Curry and Draymond Green
A seasoned venture capitalist
When his current contract finishes Andre Iguodala will have made $196.6m from his NBA Career.
What he is doing with those earnings is sensational however.
Andre has invested in over FORTY tech companies including the likes of Coinbase, AllBirds, Dapper Labs, Zoom, Step and many more.
He has been investing so long he has already seen three exits with Walker & Co (parent company of Bevel) being one of the most notable.
Despite never making more than $16m in a single NBA season (there are currently over 50 players in the NBA making $20m per annum!), Iguodala is on a comfortable path to billionaire status boosted significantly with his off-court ventures.
Whilst it’s not as prolific or as public here in the UK, I’m committed to bring you stories of this nature for British athletes.
So far we’ve covered:

So my ask for you is a simple one. If you are reading this edition of TLP, please respond to this email with anyone who you would want to see an economic profile on.
It can be someone who I have named above. It can be someone who is lesser known or not as wealthy as Anthony Joshua! Anyone person who you reply with is very valuable to me for two reasons:
You will boost TLP as a recognised email address in your inbox (very important for me)
You will provide key feedback for me to build on
Andre Iguodala recently went on Draymond Green’s new Podcast for a great conversation.
At 17:26 he dives into how he started in the tech space and goes on to speak on some very exciting projects he’s working on.
Can’t wait for more of these platforms for UK athletes to speak on.
Stay tuned.
See you next week.
